About the University

The Izmir University of Economics was established in 2001 in Turkey’s third-largest city Izmir and it is the first private university of the Aegean region of Turkey. One of Turkey’s most preferred universities, Izmir University of Economics has 16,000 alumni. Founded by the Izmir Chamber of Commerce Education and Health Foundation, the university is in close ties with the business world. In this way, it becomes easier for students to plan their careers while studying.   

There are 465 academicians at the Izmir University of Economics, which has an annual student number of nearly 10,000. At the constantly developing Izmir University of Economics, 28 associate, 35 bachelor’s, 30 master’s, and 6 doctoral programs are offered.  

The Izmir University of Economics has 5 colleges, 8 faculties, and 1 institute. Thanks to the strong academic infrastructure of the university, students can develop themselves rapidly, and have an unforgettable university life on a fun, dynamic, and 24-hour campus.  

It is possible to easily reach the city center from the campus in Balçova, one of the most peaceful areas of Izmir, by bus, metro, or sea in 25 minutes. Conversations, surprise concerts, extraordinary events, and festivities are held on the campus with the participation of celebrities. Students can join more than 50 student clubs at the university according to their interests and tastes and take part in activities held on campus. The campus of the university has been designed in a green, healthy, and environmentally-friendly manner.

The library of the Izmir University of Economics aims to meet the information needs of academic staff, students, and researchers and contribute to education and research life. The library was merged with the British Council library in 2004 and English library services started to be provided. The library has wireless internet access and 196 internet access ports. There are also 2 catalogue scanning terminals and 20 computers.

A doctor and a nurse work full time at the university. During the week, the health team at the university takes care of all students who apply to them and provides the necessary guidance. Guidance and counselling services are provided by psychologists to contribute to the mental, spiritual, and social development of students.

According to the Higher Education Institution of Turkey (YÖK) Atlas Guide, among the most preferred engineering bachelor departments, Izmir University of Economics Software Engineering ranked second, Biomedical Engineering fourth, and Civil Engineering ranked among the top 10.
