About the University

Founded in 2006, Giresun University is a non-profit public higher-education institution located in the Giresun. Giresun University also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.

Even though Giresun University is regarded as a new university, some units within the university date back to old times. The foundation of the Faculty of Education affiliated to Giresun University is based on the three-year Girls’ Teacher School established in 1962. The university has continued its activities under different names and statuses after this date. Similarly, Faculty of Science and Letters was established in 1998, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was established in 2003, and then these schools were affiliated to Giresun University. Likewise, the School of Health started its activities in the 1992-1993 academic year and was affiliated to Giresun University in 2006. This school was named as Faculty of Health Sciences with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 15.10.2008 and numbered 27025.

Giresun University today; It provides education in 19 campuses with 13 Faculties, 3 Institutes, 5 Schools, 1 State Conservatory, 13 Vocational Schools, 21 Application and Research Centers and 5 Departments.

While 49,638 people graduated from Giresun University between 2006 and 2019, 5,278 people were entitled to receive a Pedagogical Formation Certificate.
