1: İstanbul Technical University

Istanbul Technical University is the world’s third-oldest technical university dedicated to engineering sciences as well as social sciences recently. Moreover, it is one of the most prominent educational institutions in Turkey.

ITU is ranked 173rd worldwide (1st nationwide) in the field of “Engineering & Technology”, and 307th worldwide (1st nationwide) in the field of “Natural Sciences” by the QS World University Rankings in 2016.

ITU is a public university. It has five campuses, all of which are located in the most important areas of Istanbul, which can be quite convenient for international students wishing to study in Turkey.

ITU offers many options to students who like doing extra-curricular work during their studying years. Rock Club, Cinema Club, Model United Nations, EPGIK, International Engineering Club are the most popular ones. 2: İstanbul University

Founded by Mehmed II on 1453, it reopened in 1846 as the first Ottoman higher education institution.

At present, there are 69,411 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students studying in 33 academic units. More importantly, Istanbul University alumni include 2 Nobel laureates, Aziz Sancar (in Chemistry) and Orhan Pamuk (in Literature).

The main campus is adjacent to Beyazıt Square in Fatih, the capital district of the province, on the European side of the city. The campus is located in the middle of the most popular tourist attractions and landmarks of the city, so the location is quite convenient for international students planning to study in Turkey.

3: Boğaziçi University

Founded in 1863, as Robert College, it was the first American higher education institution founded outside the United States. The university still maintains strong ties to the American educational system. This means that the institution is quite popular among students from the USA who want to study in Turkey.

Boğaziçi University consistently ranks as Turkey’s top university. It has the greatest number of applicants via the Turkish university entrance examinations. Therefore, it is the most selective state university in Turkey.

Boğaziçi University operates on six campuses in Istanbul. Four of these campuses are within walking distance to each other on a hill overlooking the Bosphorus.
