Orthodontics is a branch that consists of a combination of both clinical and many scientific fields. Planning and implementation, knowledge-experience and practical method are equally important.
While planning orthodontic treatment, it is not enough to solve the individual’s current aesthetic and functional needs within the framework of biology and physiology, as well as preventing problems that may occur during the long treatment process, determining the shortest and most effective biomechanical methods and ensuring the cooperation of the individual for these. In the medium and long term, maintaining the result obtained, growth, development and even aging processes, making predictions specific to that individual and ensuring the continuity of aesthetics and function is also a very important part of the orthodontic treatment plan. All these gains can only be achieved with a long and demanding training given the infinite variety of patients, and when even one of the knowledge – experience – practical application pillars of this training is missing, the results are disappointing for all stakeholders.
Therefore, the aim of the orthodontics doctorate program is to be competent in the clinical field; who can identify the factors that cause anomalies and perform preventive and stopping orthodontic treatment practices, contribute to public health, raise awareness of patients by identifying anomalies, and have information about current treatment methods; Original researches that are nationally and internationally acknowledged in the field of orthodontics, with the equipment that can apply the treatment process in line with ethical principles and within the framework of medical approach, choose modern techniques and tools required in the treatment process, use information technologies effectively, conduct and interpret scientific research is to create a human resource that can realize and contribute to science by expanding the limits of knowledge in our field by publishing these researches in national and / or international refereed journals.
