Human and commercial transport is increasing at an increasing rate in the world (References). Logistics, as defined by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), the world’s largest logistics organization; It is the process of planning, implementing and supervising the procedures necessary for the efficient ransportation and storage of all products and related information, including services, from the point of origin to the destination, in line with the needs of the customer. This definition includes inward, outward, internal and external movements. Based on this definition, Logistics Management and Industrial Engineering departments provide training at various levels on various topics within the field. However, the importance of the designs of this increasing amount of logistics systems and the efficiency of their work are equally important. The Master’s program in Logistics Engineering will be opened under the fields of International Logistics Management and Industrial Engineering to train individuals equipped with the necessary methods and software skills in transportation, storage, planning of procedures, implementation and supervision of goods and services.

According to the international monetary fund, the size of logistics services corresponds to 29% of the world GDP. This ratio is measured as 20% in Turkey. According to the Boston Consulting group’s research titled “Transportation and Logistics in a Changing World’, the 2015 logistics sector generated $ 2.7 trillion in revenue, and it is estimated that the transport sector is expected to generate $ 4 trillion in 2016. Since 2011, the transport sector has grown at the fastest rate, creating 7% growth every year. It is also estimated that between 2013 and 2016, the logistics sector will create 1.1 million new business opportunities.

Within the logistics sector, land transportation has the biggest share with 2 trillion dollars. At the same time, it is observed that 80% of world trade is carried out by sea and this ratio is increasing. Turkey, due to its location, is situated in a very advantageous position in the international maritime and road transport.

Turkey Logistics industry with the influence of this position ranked 34 in terms of logistics performance in the World Bank Logistics Performance Index with 3.15 points in 2007. In 2014 Turkey was ranked 30th.
