Biomedical Engineering is a branch of engineering sciences which focuses in the design and development of engineering approaches for medical problems. The Department of Biomedical Engineering comprises an interdisciplinary syllabus including the medical sciences besides the fundamental principles of the engineering branches like electrical-electronics, computer science, industrial and mechanical engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.

The main aim of Biomedical Engineering is to propose engineering approaches to the problems encountered in medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutics, veterinary medicine, biology, and life sciences. The proposed approaches based on the fundamentals and principles of physics, mathematics, and engineering sciences constitute a base to develop innovative method, algorithm, device and software for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Parallel to the innovations and emerging technologies in engineering, Biomedical Engineering deals with the design and development of methods and devices, and requires qualified personnel to maintain the calibration and maintenance of those medical devices and developed systems.
