Haliç University School of Physical Education and Sports was established in 2008. The Sports Management Program is one of its three main departments and the first of its kind among foundation universities in Turkey. It is a four-year (eight-semester) undergraduate program taught to approximately 350 students in Turkish. The department is based in the heart of Istanbul, one of world’s largest metropolitan areas; it owes its great popularity to this central location and high-quality teaching.
The Program aims to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills, indispensable in becoming highly qualified sports managers, capable of demonstrating their competence in the area of national and international sports management and administration. The curriculum of the Sports Management Program has been especially designed to meet the current demands of the sport industry. The first two years consist of joint modular courses with collaborating departments, which include: Sports and Media, Sports Industry and Marketing, Fitness and Recreation Management, directly corresponding to most crucial aspects of the industry. In the final two semesters, students participate in internship programs in the public or private sector, with a view to explore the working environment of the field and refine their professional skills.
Graduates of the Sports Management Program pursue successful careers as managers of recreation centres and public or private sports clubs, as well as in print and broadcast media within the sports industry.
They are particularly sought after in areas of fitness management, sports marketing, and sports facility management. Graduates can also find employment opportunities at various central and provincial organisations affiliated with the General Directorate of Youth and Sports.
